Magali is currently the pit cellist on tour with the Broadway musical “Hamilton” (Angelica Company). She began touring with the company in August 2024. She was previously with the Philip Company of “Hamilton” from 2022 - 2024

Born in Guatemala, 29-year-old Magalí moved to Toronto, Canada, at the age of two, and at four, began cello studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM).   Magalí has constantly been in an orchestra since she was seven. Orchestral highlights include: fundraiser at Carnegie Hall for Médecins Sans Frontières and the Rohingya refugees with members of the NY Phil and MET Orchestra; the Plano Symphony, Texas; the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado; Spoleto Music Festival Orchestra in Charleston, South Carolina; the Orford Music Academy Orchestra (including a South Korea tour); the National Orchestral Institute’s program; the Texas Festival Orchestra in Round Top; the National Youth Orchestra of Canada; the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (four seasons); and the International Regions Symphony Orchestra in Germany.

 

Highlights of Magalí’s solo and chamber playing include: RCM’s Royal Occasion gala concerts with Nellie Furtado, as well as with 2Cellos; 2014 winner of the Toronto Sinfonietta Concerto Competition; recital at Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts; Neapolitan Connections “Young Masters of Classical Music” concert; performances at the Brantford Sanderson Centre and the Burlington Performing Arts Centre; and numerous prestigious scholarships and awards from music festivals and programs.

 

Magalí has been fortunate to have had masterclasses, coachings and/or lessons with many internationally-renowned musicians, a sampling of which are: Martin Löhr, Steven Isserlis, Alisa Weilerstein, Johannes Moser, Laurence Lesser, Hans Jørgen Jensen, Melissa Kraut, Desmond Hoebig, Colin Carr, Andrés Díaz, Steven Doane, Matt Haimovitz, John Sharp, and Peter Oundjian.

 

Graduating from high school in 2014 with an Honors French Immersion Certificate, Magalí then earned her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance with Natasha Brofsky from Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music in Spring 2018. She completed her Master of Music degree in Orchestral Performance in May 2020, studying with Alan Stepansky at the Manhattan School of Music.
